The gerundio (present participle) has multiple usages. One of them is to form the presente progresivo (present progressive).

The presente progresivo describes an action in progress. It is formed with the presente of the verb estar and the gerundio of the main verb:

• Estoy comiendo pizza.
• I am eating pizza.
• Estamos hablando sobre el tiempo.
• We are talking about the weather.
